STUDENT ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS
What We Expect
We show up and participate in the 2 team rides plus 2 additional rides per week throughout the season. That’s a minimum of 4 rides per week. As the team gets physically stronger over the season, it is essential that we all can ride at the same pace over the whole length of the ride. At a minimum, we can easily ride up the Railroad Grade to the West Point Inn with a goal of 60 minutes. We are self-sufficient with our equipment on the trails; our bike works properly, and we each carry our own nutrition and hydration for the ride. The team does not have the coaching resources to monitor riders who consistently require one-on-one supervision.
What we RIDE AND RACE
We ride and race cross-country mountain bikes on singletrack trails, fire roads, and rough roads. Riding uphill and being physically fit is equally as important as the ability to descend technical trails. Our training rides focus on building leg strength, lung strength, and required technical skills for the XC courses that we race on. There is no short-cut to being both physically fit and technically skilled, we get out and ride our bikes.
WHO CAN RIDE
Anybody with a strong desire and commitment to ride XC mountain bikes can join the Tam Mountain Bike Racing Team. As members of the team, we love spending 5 to 10 hours a week riding our bikes all over Mt. Tam and exploring some of the best MTB trails in the country. We enjoy sharing this experience and developing lasting friendships with other riders on the team. We like to push the boundaries of our physical and mental endurance. We set training objectives and work hard over the season to achieve these goals.
